Master Carpenter

The College of St Joseph the Worker raises up our students in the academic and manual lives, seeking excellence in both so as to redeem all things in Christ. To that end, we are seeking a master craftsman who can take responsibility for our students’ performance during his carpentry apprenticeship. His duties would span from developing and offering related instruction (RI) training in the classroom to on the job training (OJT) on a construction site.

Job duties/Responsibilities:

  • RI: Using current project builds and remodels as well as NCCER curriculum, lead classroom instruction and associated shop time ensuring students meet all required standards for apprenticeship.  

  • OJT: 

    • Oversee student apprentices on residential and commercial job sites with a focus on competency, professionalism, and attention to detail.

    • Coordinate job schedules with Project Manager in phases during the planning stage and ensure that all needed parts, materials, and components have been ordered in advance.

    • Review blueprints with a general contractor before beginning work on a new build site.  On a remodeling project review the current construction drawings to determine what can be kept in place and what components must be replaced.

    • Ensure the College construction company produces only the highest quality work for the customer, and the best training opportunities for our students.

  • Model virtuous manhood in the classroom and on the jobsite, and hold students to the same standards.

Qualifications:

  • Faithfully Catholic, submits to Church Authority in all Her teachings.

  • Holds, or in the process of getting an Master-level license or equivalent experience (Journeyman 5+ years experience)

Work Schedule and Compensation:

  • Work schedule varies between classroom and jobsite depending on phase of training and build.

  • Compensation is very competitive.
